Theme Parks & Dragons – 3 Upcoming Board Game Campaigns

We have 3 previews for you today. All games are supposed to launch between February and May this year.

Wishland – February 4th

Theme parks are such a great topic for games. Since the original Theme Park video game I always had a soft spot for these. The mix of colorful rides, mascots and business makes for something that always feels exciting. Wishland by Lost Games Entertainment is by no means the first theme park related board game, but from what we’ve seen so far, it looks quite promising.

In Wishland players become entrepreneurs who want to make it big in the theme park business. To win you’ll have to gather the biggest amount of victory points. There are plenty of ways to gain these. You can for example increase the happiness level in your park. Same when you boost the visitor numbers. Other ways include building attractions, hotels and restaurants. Each building type has plenty of cards with unique ways to award you points. Every turn players place workers and buy new facilities. Round consists of 4 turns total and the game is played until 7 complete rounds pass.

Adventures in Neverland – April

This charming game’s campaign is set to launch on Kickstarter sometime in April. As you’ve likely guessed: it takes place in the setting known from Peter Pan books and movies. The world looks as colorful as the characters many of us know and love. The board representing the island of Neverland looks like an old treasure map and the entire artstyle, despite being modern, feels like a century old adventure book.

Adventures in Neverland were designed for 2-4 players – each playing as a different character from the world of J.M. Barrie – Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy Darling and others. The core version of the game, that has been tested at various events, is competitive and this will without doubt be the main mode. The goal here is to finish the story of your character, which thanks to plenty of components and randomized adventures, should be different every time you play. Authors are also considering to look into some other modes like co-op but we don’t know yet whether these will make it to the final version of the game.

While we still need to wait for the official rulebook, mechanics used in the game include “quest tokens” that make the story progress, moving and interacting each turn, optional quests, dice gameplay and different abilities available for all characters.

Euthia: Torment of Resurrection – May 5th

A majority of board games we see on Kickstarter are prototypes or ideas that become real thanks to backers. Euthia: Torment of Resurrection is a slightly different case. The game was already crowdfunded and shipped in Czech Republic, with a pretty positive reception from fans. Now the rest of the world has the chance to play it as well. That is of course, if the campaign is successful.

Euthia: Torment of Resurrection is a huge game that advertises itself as an open world RPG. The story takes place in a world inhibited by evil dragons. Each play mode has players take on a different flying monstrosity.
The board is constructed from hexes – some merged into bigger clusters and some smaller. Each player chooses a single hero (out of 5 available). All characters are highly customizable and can be tailored to your taste with equipment and abilities. The game can be played solo or competitively with up to 4 players. Whoever has the most reputation by the end of the game becomes the winner.
