Experiencing live music truly is one of life’s greatest joys. The energy of the crowd. The thumping of the bass in your chest. Yep, there’s nothing quite like it, but this wearable subwoofer might come in at a close second if you’re keen on never leaving the house.
It’s called the BassMe and it’s designed to bring a physical audio experience to your video games, music and movies. It’s been getting around on Kickstarter for a little bit, but the final version of the product is currently being shown and demoed at CES right now.
“Don’t just listen. Feel your music,” the Kickstarter description says. “BassMe propels the sound into your heart the way it was intended to be experienced by combining a state-of-the-art sound wave and vibration system.” Sounds a bit like a heart attack, but hey I’ll try anything once.
The company also claims that BassMe can even help protect hearing, as users don’t feel the need to crank the volume to wild levels to get a “kick” out of whatever they’re listening to.
“The vibes are so pronounced that with BassMe, users often reduce the headset volume because they are receiving the tactile sensation, so you’re also protecting your hearing,” the company says.
It’s a pretty big claim and certainly a tricky one to verify, but damn these things would probably go hard at a silent disco. I’d imagine the immersion it offers with gaming would be pretty sweet as well.
BassMe comes in a bunch of different colours including black, silver, gold, red and more. The units are also compatible with pretty much any headset or audio source with a 3.5mm input, using Bluetooth to connect to the device via an included transmitter.
If you’re keen on picking one up, it looks like you can still do so via the Kickstarter page for €119, which converts to roughly $193 AUD at the time of writing.
