Warped Tour documentary launches Kickstarter to finish three-part series

Vans Warped Tour as we knew it for so long came to an end in 2018. This ended a magical 25-year run as the longest continuing traveling festival in North American history. Now, in order to keep the legacy of something that might only exist in our hearts, a Kickstarter has been launched to fund the docu-series The Story of Warped Tour.

The Kickstarter launched today and is seeking $150,000 to fund the three-part series. Previously, the project was believed to be a four-part series.

The Story of Warped Tour will be a three-part documentary series consisting of exclusive interviews, live archived footage from Warped Tour’s 25-year history, and other insights into what made Warped Tour so special.

The director of the project is DJay Brawner who has attended Warped Tour since he was a child. Brawner is also known for directing music videos for artists such as Panic! At The Disco, Foo Fighters and Melanie Martinez.

“The biggest benefit of crowdfunding is the ability to control the entire filmmaking process from creation to release.” DJay Brawner says on his decision to launch this campaign. “Sure, we can pitch this to studios. Yes, it would be rad if this was on a streaming platform… but at the end of the day if we do this ourselves we’ll get to tell our story on our terms.”

Much of the preliminary work is already completed. Brawner and his team has been conducting interviews and other research for over two years. The $150,000 will bring the project to the finish line with some better equipment and a post-production team.

Those who donate will receive some pretty unique prizes as well. A $10 donation gets you a thank you in the credits. The gifts are tiered up from there. A $300 donation allows you to choose a gift set from either Epitaph, Fearless Records, Hopeless Records or Equal Vision Records. A $500 donation gets you custom Vans shoes and merch pack. After that prizes include set visits, accommodations to Los Angeles for the premiere, and even a producer credit for the film.

Interviews have already been completed with artists including Andrew W.K., Bert McCracken (The Used), Tyson Ritter (All-American Rejects), Yungblud, Sean Forman (3OH!3), Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens) as well as members of Sum 41, Atreyu and Bad Religion

The three-part series will be organized by decades and the Warped Tour’s creation, influence and controversies from 1990-2019.

This is an all-or-nothing Kickstarter campaign meaning that if the goal is not reached, the money will be refunded if the goal of $150,000 is not reached by Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, 11:00 AM EST.

Full information, as well as a trailer and complete list of gift sets, are available here. Check it out and see if you want to donate. Warped Tour meant so much to so many over the years. We hope this project will capture its true DIY essence and make this legendary festival immortal.
