Revealed a few months ago at Gamescom 2019, the sequel to the critically-acclaimed space shooter Everspace is now trying to nearly half a million USD to finish their game. The Kickstarter campaign for Everspace 2, the game developed by ROCKFISH Games, started earlier today with a base funding goal of 450,000 EUR (493,000 USD) and is set to end on November 4, 2019.

The game will enter Steam Early Access on September 2020, so about a year from now, with the full release version for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One scheduled for the second half of 2021. The launch of the Everspace 2 Kickstarter campaign is no surprise for the German developer, as the original game is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign with more than €420.000 back in 2015.

Unlike the previous roguelike game mechanics in the first game, developers will focus on open-world gameplay combined with classic RPG elements and extended storytelling in Everspace 2. Expanded perks and a brand new class-based player ship system with dozens of models let players fully customize their spaceship to their individual playing styles with weapons, plating, and equipment, in the same vein as the classic RPG character development.

However, Everspace 2 will remain true to its space shooter core and presents fast-paced space action in the well-known Everspace style, so fans of the original game shouldn't be worried about the gameplay.

The story of Everspace 2 continues from its predecessor. You play as one of the surviving clone pilots and you're faced with the remnants of your past: the cloning program has been canceled, the colonial authorities have placed a bounty on you, and now that dying means the ultimate death the search for the meaning of life suddenly takes on a whole new importance.

The game plans to create a more powerful gaming experience, one that is visually impressive in the beautiful infinity of space where breathtaking cinematic scenery encourages exploration. Developer ROCKFISH Games promises a 20+ hours campaign, with countless side missions, which will be created in collaboration with Joshua Rubin, who has been involved in AAA productions such as Destiny, Assassin's Creed II, and The Walking Dead.

Those who want to support the Everspace 2 project can now pledge on Kickstarter and get access to the demo on Steam this year after a successful campaign.
