By the time this fall is over, the east wall of Hannibal City Hall will look very different than it does now.

Thanks to a fund raising effort on the Kickstarter social media site, $15,000 has been raised to paint a mural to further celebrate Hannibal’s Bicentennial.

As city officials looked at options for the wall, Mayor James Hark approached Ray Harvey, an artist from New Haven, Missouri who has painted murals all over the country, including three in Hannibal.

Harvey was told there was no public money budgeted for the mural. That’s where Kickstarter came in. A page was set up for donations and the $15,000 goal was reached Wednesday night.

Even though the fund raising goal to paint the mural has been met, the campaign continues until noon Sunday. Any additional money raised will go toward the cost of posters, postcards and stickers depicting the mural.

Harvey plans to begin work on the mural no later than the first of October.
