Kristen Bell has opened up about the adorable way her daughters influenced her decision to take part in the Veronica Mars reboot.

The cult favourite series aired for three season from 2004 to 2007 on UPN, before it moved to the CW. It had such a massive following that it inspired the launch of a Kickstarter campaign, raising more than $5.7 million towards a movie sequel in 2014.

Then, last summer, it was announced that the series was coming back – this time on Hulu, as an eight-episode miniseries.

And the Good Place actress said that while she was excited to reprise the role of Veronica Mars, her daughters – four-and-a-half-year-old Delta and six-year-old Lincoln – also played a pretty big part in her decision to join the reboot.

Bell told Access Hollywood that it had been a “giant show to shoot”, citing plenty of night shoots and 16-hour filming days.

She continued:

“I’m here a lot of hours, which means, logistically, I’m away from my kids more hours.

“And missing four or five bedtimes a week. And when I decided to take it on I was like, you know what, now that I went back and reread the scripts and watched the show, I want my girls to have this character in their life.

“Now I see why a lot of young girls and women said, thank you for doing that show. It wasn’t just because we entertained them, it was because she was a force in their life.

“She was an example.

“I made the choice as a mom, now — which was really hard — to go, ‘I’m gonna miss a couple bedtimes for a couple months, because I want this character to exist in the world.’ I want her to be a zeitgeist. I want girls to reference her, I want girls to feel like her.”

The 8-episode miniseries is set to premiere on Hulu this year, and will  focus on a serial killer targeting spring breakers in Neptune.

With Mars Investigations on the case, naturally.

A number of cast members – including Jason Dohring (Logan), Francis Capra (Eli) and Percy Daggs III (Wallace) – all set to return.

The official description reads:

“Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry.

“After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.”

And while there’s a premiere date set for North America (July 26, FYI) there is no word yet on when Veronica Mars will be arriving over here – but we’ll keep you posted.
