'Veronica Mars' Movie Raises More Than $5.7 Million On Kickstarter

The "Veronica Mars" movie will get made thanks to fans.

The Kickstarter to fund the "Veronica Mars" movie ended on Friday, April 12 and shattered records on the crowd funding site
. A total of 91,585 backers contributed $5,702,153. To get the movie made, series creator Rob Thomas had to raise $2 million. That goal was reached in under 12 hours.

The "Veronica Mars" movie project has the most backers in Kickstarter history. Additionally, it is the highest-funded movie project, fastest project to hit both $1 million and $2 million and the third highest-funded project ever on Kickstarter.

The movie will film during the summer of 2013 with a release date in early 2014. Thomas has been working on the script that will feature the title character returning to Neptune, California, the fictional city she left behind. So far just series star Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring are signed on to appear in the movie, but more casting announcements are expected.

Thomas also officially announced the movie title and it should come as no surprise to fans.
