Local Firefighter’s Life Saving Device Getting A Kickstart

Back in September we told you about Joel Sellinger. He’s a local firefighter who along with a friend developed a device that can automatically close an open bedroom or interior door when the fire alarm sounds. The two have been working on the device, which they call LifeDoor. They’ve been in the developmental stage, refining it and receiving lots of praise and interest at trade shows and within the fire safety community.

According to Sellinger, Lifedoor responds to the specific, universal sound a smoke alarm emits (called a T-3) and then using a special spring closes the attached door, lights up and sounds a secondary alarm. He and his partner have tested dozens of design variations during the development phase, and have functional protoypes built and tested in a variety of different settings.

Yesterday they launched a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of raising $50,000.00 to move into the production phase. They are offering several different levels of support and rewards through Kickstarter. They have until July 6th to raise the $50,000.00 or the campaign will not be funded.
