One avid gamer and graphic artist is looking to bring their own fan-made guide for Harvest Moon 64 to the masses, and they've turned to Kickstarter and the power of the crowdfunding dollar to do it. The guide itself has already been made and is based off Kansas City-based Gerry's Guides own experience with the game, as well as some original illustrations from a Japanese players guide (which can be have touched up to make them look a little snazzier).
Versions of the guide are already out - in fact, one has been released as a special reward for the campaign already reaching a third of its modest $2,494 goal. The campaign itself is to have the guide released in PDF format and a series of original video guides.
It's still very much a fan-made creation and isn't officially endorsed by developer Victor Interactive Software or publisher Natsume (or even Nintendo itself), but you can't knock a fan who wants to give a game its western-based due almost two decades after its release on N64.
Will you be backing the project? Does Harvest Moon 64 deserve a lavish guide? Let us know in the usual way...

Ah, we can use the guide from Gamefaqs or Youtube.
Btw, do NOT talk to Ellen (Elli' Grandma) on early date or ..... she will .... Passed Away !
But, we have Ushi no Tane...
We can already buy the guide on his site so I'm not sure what backing the kickstarter does
@russellohh It's to get the book printed. But it seems if you actually want a printed copy you have to pledge $1,000 to get the first ever physical print of it. There doesn't seem to be a way to get a physical copy of the book outside of that, it's not a tier ...which is ridiculous.
@Ogbert its also to get a kindle version!
@russellohh Oh dang you're right I misread it. They want all this money to convert a guide to a different format?
This really is pointless!
@russellohh Like Ogert says, it's to get the guide printed and also to pay for the licensing.
@Ogbert I'm actually more okay with that, although anyone giving $10 for a $6 guide reformat should definitely get a copy.
Very good idea. I am in. By the way: I am playing the game on my WiiU right now
This isn't even the best classic Harvest Moon lol
Well it takes 10 secs to convert ePub to Mobi on Calibre. It should give every backer a physical copy. This is ridiculous
@Lizuka I feel like the kind of people who would want this should already be experts at the game.
@russellohh @Ogbert @retro_player_22 There's no mention of licensing, there is no intent to fund a print run, and even the reformatting is a stretch goal rather than the kickstarter's purpose.
The goal is merely to raise $3500. Once that's done, he'll release the pdf for free. I guess he doesn't want to sell the pdf for fear of piracy.
@trainerblu Yeah he's already done the pdf, he's now just asking for money before releasing it. I misread initially because the campaign details waffle on and it seemed like the only point of this would be to get it printed. Which would be a much better kickstarter if they could get the licence to do so.
As it stands it's just a guy saying he made a pdf and if we give him a couple thousand he'll hand it out for free.
It all feels very morally grey. He's still asking money for work he's done based on someone else's property that he doesn't have permission to earn money off. He's also not really kickstarting anything, because he's done it already. He's just saying we can't have it until he get paid for his hobby project.
Weird.
