Students pitch for film funding

A group of students from Leeds Trinity University have set themselves 20 days to raise a budget of £2,250.

The Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign by final year students at Horsforth aims to raise money for actors, sets, costumes and props for four mini films.

Film lecturer Isabelle Stead said: “Our students are passionate storytellers. The Kickstarter campaign in unison with 
making their short film offers film students the opportunity to engage with their audiences well before their films are 
made whilst allowing students a first-hand experience of film financing that we believe encourages them to develop an entrepreneurial spirit, an essential skill every filmmaker needs beyond university.”

The films cover a range of subjects from male domestic violence, horror and spiritualism and making life and death decisions.

Student Jonathan Beetles is seeking funding for Indecisive about a husband who has to play God after his wife is critically injured in a car crash.

He said: “We’d very much like to involve the audiences of Yorkshire and beyond, in the creation of these films. Some of these films raise awareness of issues such as domestic violence and end of life health care, so they are issues that the public can relate to. They will not only be our graduate films, they will provide us with a creative medium to impress our future employers in the creative industries.”
