Agents of Mayhem Board Game Seeks to Improve on the Video Game

Agents of Mayhem A team

Agents of Mayhem is a fun but ultimately underwhelming video game. Many critics state the game is overly grindy and repetitive, but that might soon change. No, Volition isn’t patching the game, but Academy Games is developing a board game based on Agents of Mayhem that promises a unique experience with every playthrough.

The board game, titled Agents of Mayhem: Pride of Babylon, is described by the Kickstarter campaign as a “story-driven 3D tactical boardgame,” and it does mean 3D. The game board includes modular tiles that form several destructible towers, which dynamically affect how players can go about the game. Moreover, the story is derived from player decisions; each action has a “ripple effect” that will significantly impact missions and character abilities. Oh, and Academy Games promises plenty of humor, so the game’s got that going for it, as well.

As you might expect, players will be able to control either the “heroic” titular agents of M.A.Y.H.E.M. or the definitely villainous members of L.E.G.I.O.N., each with his, her, or its own unique upgrades, abilities, equipment, and meticulously detailed plastic miniature. A major sticking point of the Agents of Mayhem video game is players can’t create their own characters, but the board game looks as if it will be a much better fit for the pre-made agents and villains. While the base game will only include the agents Fortune, Hardtack, and Hollywood, along with the villainous Dr. Babylon and a collection of L.E.G.I.O.N. troopers, more will be provided to backers depending on the number of stretch goals unlocked. So far, only the L.E.G.I.O.N. shock trooper and the agent Scheherazade have been announced, but Academy Games promises more down the line. Moreover, players can obtain new building tiles through stretch goals and add-ons for even more explosive mayhem.

Agents of Mayhem: Pride of Babylon looks like a complicated game on paper, as it will require players to manage combat die, resource counters, effect tiles, character cards, and whatever else the board throws their way. It looks chaotic, but what else did you expect from a game with the word “mayhem” in the title? Academy Games has a history of creating award-winning board games, so I am confident Agents of Mayhem: Pride of Babylon will be an enjoyable romp.

As of writing this article, the Agents of Mayhem: Pride of Babylon Kickstarter campaign has blown past its $30,000 goal, which is impressive since the campaign started today. The campaign only has three pledge tiers, starting as low as the $85 early bird special, which contains the base game, the Gaunt character expansion pack, and all stretch goals, including the Kickstarter-exclusive “Total Mayhem” goals. While the $90 tier is identical to the $85 tier (it is meant for those who miss the early bird special), the $115 tier gives gamers a taste of the source material by including the Agents of Mayhem video game. Additionally, only three add-ons are available for purchase: a copy of the Agents of Mayhem game for PC, a set of giant building tiles, and the Johnny Gat character expansion.  Now, a friendly reminder: all prices listed on the Kickstarter page do not cover shipping costs.

I look forward to the release of Agents of Mayhem: Pride of Babylon. It looks promising and could very well be the definitive Agents of Mayhem experience.

All you have to do to get my attention is talk about video games, technology, anime, and/or Dungeons & Dragons - also people in spandex fighting rubber suited monsters.

Fear not; for those worried about potential censorship issues with the PS5-exclusive Stellar Blade, set to release on April 26th, Sony has got you covered. ShiftUp, the developer, proudly assures players that the game will maintain its uncensored content across all regions, including Japan.

We have to admit, we didn’t anticipate this as a potential issue or a potential selling point. The main character, Eve, and her revealing costumes have been heavily showcased in the game’s pre-release marketing. Nevertheless, it is pleasing to witness ShiftUp’s evident enthusiasm as their vision prepares to reach the hands of a vast number of players.

Regarding Stellar Blade, Yoko Taro believes it surpasses NieR: Automata, and we were pleased to learn that the game will be considerate of your PS5 storage capacity. The demo is now available for you to try, and it has nearly doubled the daily active users of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This is quite impressive, especially considering it is the game’s first console showing.

Will you be there to experience Stellar Blade on its release day? It’s certainly a relief to witness the game remaining uncensored until the last moment. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Sony is reportedly engaged in discussions to form a partnership for a potential bid on Paramount

There hasn’t been much buzz lately about any new acquisitions in the world of video game intellectual property. According to a recent report, Sony is currently engaged in discussions with a well-funded partner to potentially acquire the renowned film studio Paramount, along with all the exciting possibilities that come with such a merger.

As reported in the New York Times (thanks, ResetEra), Sony Picture Entertainment is reportedly in discussions with Apollo Global Management, an investment firm, as per two sources familiar with the matter. In the past, Apollo had made an offer to acquire Paramount for a minimum of $26 billion, but their bid was ultimately turned down.

The terms of the joint bid are currently under discussion, and there is a chance that the two parties may decide against making a formal offer. Unnamed sources have revealed that Paramount is currently in exclusive discussions with Skydance, preventing any official offer from being made at this time. Investor opposition to the recent deal that Skydance brought seems to have been significant.

The potential impact of such an acquisition is immense. First and foremost, it would introduce adaptations of Sonic and Halo into the expanding media empire of the PlayStation platform holder. Following the announcement, Paramount’s stock experienced a significant 11% surge in after-hours trading.

What are your thoughts on the news? Is there a possibility of Sony acquiring Paramount? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

In the ongoing conflict against the Automaton invasion fleet, the Helldivers 2 players have successfully halted their advance. However, the situation has now reached a tiresome stalemate. Yet again, the machines refuse to take a break from their relentless pursuit of progress, with reports emerging of the Factory Striders being deployed in record-breaking quantities.

There have been reports of alleged machines that were supposedly encountered during Operation Swift Disassembly, which was just the beginning of a larger campaign. However, these accounts should be taken with a grain of salt, as they are unverified and seem to be more on the imaginative side. Factory Striders have gained a reputation as formidable weapons platforms that can produce more Automatons while enduring significant damage. If the machines are able to withstand such a relentless assault, it will be necessary to develop innovative strategies.

Have you come across groups of Factory Striders in Helldivers 2? Which strategies are proving to be the most effective in taking down these armored brutes? The Orbital Railcannon Strike will prove to be a valuable asset in the comments section below.
