Crowdfunded RPG Legrand Legacy Landing On Switch In 2019

Developer Semisoft's latest title is a return to the glory days of JRPG-styled action.

While big game developers are making considerable profits by providing players with incremental releases in popular franchises like Madden, FIFA, or Call of Duty, other game developers are simply seeking to make a name for themselves by releasing new and interesting intellectual properties. The modern gaming scene is frankly ripe with opportunity on this front, especially considering the resurgence of throwback-styled games and the growing popularity of projects backed through crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter. The latter is the case with developer Semisoft, who managed to pull in 1,001 backers on their JRPG-styled project titled Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds. And now that the project has closed, Semisoft is gearing up to bring Legrand Legacy to the Nintendo Switch, albeit not any time soon.

Legrand Legacy hit Kickstarter with a relatively-meager goal of drawing in £40,000, or around $54,000. Semisoft's pitch was a game that's styled in the manner of classic JRPGs like Final Fantasy, telling a story of yet-another amensiac hero with aspirations to save the world from a great war that threatens to tear it apart. Here's the plot overview provided via the game's Kickstarter page:

"Mugna Feud, the great war between the Kingdoms of Fandor and Altea, puts Legrand in a chaotic state. You play as Finn, a young slave who wakes up without any memory of his past, yet soon discovers that he possesses mysterious powers beyond his control. Embark on an epic adventure in this sprawling fantasy universe and fight alongside the Fatebounds to bring peace back to Legrand and prevent the Second Coming! But beware, something deeper and darker awaits..."

It probably goes without saying that Legrand Legacy capitalizes on some of the genre's most-used tropes, but that isn't a bad thing. The game combines 3D models with gorgeous hand-drawn 2D backgrounds, which satisfies that old-school aesthetic, and players will be able to test their prowess in both turn-based battles as well as tactical warfare siutations. A number of recruitable NPCs will be available, players will be able to build up their Castle home base, and a number of minigames and side quests help round out the overall experience.

Steam players won't have to wait long before they can check out Legrand Legacy, as the game is currently slated for release next month. Switch players, on the other hand, have quite a wait ahead of them, as the Switch version of the game is currently shooting for an expected release date of January 24, 2019. And though that might be a little disappointing, we can assume the team at Semisoft will use that time to iron out any potential issues that might crop up in the currently-available pre-alpha builds and work on the new monster and new moves promised by the game's Kickstarter stretch goals. In the meantime, Switch owners and PC players alike can gear themselves up for the release of Legrand Legacy by checking out the game's latest trailer, featured below.
