Torment: Tides of Numenera breaks Kickstarter goal in less than a day

torment-inxile.

Well, that was quick. Torment: Tides of Numenera has already reached its $900,000 Kickstarter target. Heck it’s even gained a cool $100,000 on top, taking it over $1m. Goes to show that all that anti-Kickstarter theorising that’s been going on isn’t completely correct, large game projects can still meet their goals, they just have to be tied to the legacy of Planescape: Torment.

There’s every chance that Torment is going to go onto become the highest funded project on Kickstarter. It began with a target $200,000 less than Obsidian’s Project Eternity, however it’s managed to hit its goal in just six hours, less than half the time it took Obsidian. Clearly this is too soon to call it, I mean, Kicktraq is being silly and predicting a final total of $31m at this point, but that’s because we’re still in the ascent phase. We’ll see tomorrow if the funding rate begins to slope off.

InXile head Brian Fargo’s manage to put up a rushed update to thank backers for their support, saying “never in our wildest dreams did we think we would fund this quickly.”

If you’re interested in backing Numenera then head on over yonder.
