CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Two active duty soldiers at Fort Campbell, Ky. are hoping to achieve their dream of bringing a climbing gym to the Clarksville area.

Sam and Aidan have created a Kickstarter campaign to drum up enough funds to build the Clarksville Climbing Gym. As of Friday, the campaign has raised $5,428 of its $22,000 goal. The deadline to raise money is April 9.

Note: If you donate to the Kickstarter, you will not be charged until the goal is reached.

The soldiers hope to build a facility with 5,100 feet of climbing surface space with walls 20 to 24 feet high. Instructional classes will be offered for both adults and children. An exact location for the building has not yet been chosen, but they hope it could be built somewhere between Fort Campbell and Austin Peay State University.

Both Sam and Aidan are experienced climbers who want to share their passion with others. Aidan has been climbing for about two years, while Sam has spent the past 20 years perfecting his skills.

“Not only do we want to do something that is fun and near and dear to our hearts, rock climbing, but also to give back to the community of Clarksville,” Aidan said. “We want to leave it better than we found it.”
