Cleveland's Spontaneously Combustible Games launches new board game called Pests!

Pests the Game

(Spontaneously Combustible Games)

CLEVELAND, Ohio --Cleveland's Spontaneously Combustible Games announced Tuesday that it is launching a Kickstarter campaign for it's light strategy game "Pests!"

Cleveland native and game designer Michael McFarland said the idea for the game started with an "unfortunate encounter" he had with a swarm of ants in the backyard of his house in Gordon Square. "That same night I had a nightmare of beating back wave after wave of bugs in my house, and awoke with an idea for a board game," he said. After teaming up with artist and illustrator Todd Jakubisin, the game was refined over the next 6 months.

The game features quirky art, easy-to-learn rules for up to 6 players. Over the course of the game, players compete to eliminate an infestation of Pests!, while keeping their fellow exterminator players from doing the same.

The Kickstarter campaign will last 30 days, during which the aim is to raise the $9,500 dollars needed for manufacturing and fulfill the first production run of the game. As with most Kickstarters, if the campaign exceeds it's funding goals, Spontaneously Combustible Games hopes to reveal stretch goals for game component upgrades. You can learn more about the Pests! Kickstarter game on their campaign page.

If you would like to check out the game in person, just head over to the Blackwater Roasters and Gaming Cafe in Collinwood on Friday. The Pests! game will be featured as part of their series of events that spotlight local game design groups or specific games at the cafe. The TableTop Board Game Cafe in Ohio City also has an advanced copy of the game customers can play as well. Pests! will also be part of a Weird Realms showcase on March 4th.
