You might never have to make the bed again after a company invented a duvet that straightens itself.

American designers of the Smartduvet say it will make the age-old annoyance a thing of the past with its clever gadget, that helps make the bed whenever you want.

The device is not a replacement for your current bedding, but instead sits between the duvet and duvet cover.

According to its developers, the grid-shaped, blow-up layer, which is linked to a mobile phone app , is made of 'space-age fabric' that fills with air and helps straighten out the duvet.

Chris Jarry, Smartduvet's public relations officer, says on a promotional video: "It's a problem everyone can relate to, nobody likes making their bed.

"Whether you're a young professional without the time to spare, have a teenager that doesn't want to bother or simply struggling with mobility issues, we can all relate to the feeling you get after walking away from an unmade bed.

"We invented the Smartduvet because there's nothing better than getting into a bed that feels like it was made just for you."

The Smartduvet is powered with an app that means you can set the time you want your bed made.

The kickstarter project has already raised around $8,000 with the company aiming for a total $30,000 investment by December 27.

If it reaches its goal, the inventors plan to begin shipping the product to backers by May of next year.
