‘What Happened to Amos?’ Highlights Those Seeking Justice After a Young Marijuana Distributor’s Disappearance

Logline: A journalist challenges detectives’ theory with new evidence in disappearance of an enigmatic cannabis distributor named Amos Mortier.
Elevator Pitch:
This film about Amos Mortier, who went missing in Wisconsin 12 years ago and was then discovered to be part of one of the midwest’s largest marijuana distribution. After that discovery authorities essentially dropped the case in order to pursue his drug dealer friends. Years later a journalist starts writing about the case and is leaked from an anonymous source over 3,300 court documents and more. He pieced together evidence, including a confession, to discover a suspect and brought it to the authorities, only to have them discount his findings. He is still on the hunt for justice for Amos.

About the Film:
I didn’t know Amos personally, but remembered when he went missing. The case haunted me, I would google his name in the hopes there would be some update that they had found him. The only person who I found was writing about the case many years after the fact was Nathan Comp. I reached out to him and after discussing the case and his involvement I was surprised this hadn’t had a wider audience. After meeting with friends of Amos and his family, especially his mother Margie, it became ever more clear that this story needed to be told.
Current Status: We are currently in production with about 40% of the footage shot.
