Friday the 13th: The Game, Gun Media’s crowdfunded horror game, has officially been delayed into 2017 now that the developer has mapped out plans to introduce a single player component.
Prior to this announcement, the licensed title was pitched as a multiplayer experience first and foremost, with players having the choice of controlling one of the many hapless teenagers bound for Camp Crystal Lake, or the iconic, downright horrifying Jason Voorhees himself. Gun Media has now confirmed that, after securing the necessary funding, a single-player mode will feature when Friday the 13th: The Game touches down in spring 2017, even making room for Tommy Jarvis (Friday the 13th parts IV, V, and VI) and Packanack Lodge.
Those who have already pledged their support via Kickstarter will get the new mode free of charge, though new backers will have to pay an increased digital price of $40. The $60 physical price remains unchanged.
Meanwhile, Studio Head Wes Keltner addressed the delay head-on via the latest Kickstarter post:
“The first thing people are going to read here is delay. We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We’ve been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn’t ignore our fans. After securing funding, we’re here to tell you that it is a reality and we’re making this game [is] even bigger.”
In light of today’s status update, Friday the 13th: The Game will slither onto PS4, Xbox One and PC in spring 2017. Those who pledged their support on Kickstarter or simply pre-ordered the licensed horror game will gain beta access at some point next year, while you’ll find plenty more details relating to upcoming Twitch streams and the like via Gun Media’s Kickstarter page.
