Modiphius launches Siege of the Citadel on Kickstarter

It seems like many board games are getting reprints, some older than others.  Dungeon, Snow Tails, Survive: Escape from Atlantis, and many others have gotten upgrades.  Now Modiphius is hoping to bring an old Mutant Chronicles board game back into production, Siege of the Citadel.

Modiphius Entertainment, publisher of the Achtung! Cthulhu, Mutant Chronicles, Conan, Infinity and John Carter of Mars roleplaying games, and Cabinet Entertainment (Conan the Barbarian, Kull of Atlantis, Solomon Kane, Mutant Chronicles, Mutant: Year Zero, Kult) are thrilled to announce today the Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel is now live on Kickstarter.

Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel by designers Richard Borg with Eric M. Lang and Kevin Wilson, is an innovative reimagining of the original worldwide hit board game Siege of the Citadel, originally designed by Richard Borg and published by Target Games and Pressman Toys in the 1990s. This new edition reboots the classic with an A-List design team, balanced and updated rules, highly detailed miniatures and tiles.

Fredrik Malmberg, CEO & president of Cabinet Entertainment says, “Siege of the Citadel was groundbreaking for its cooperative campaign play and it launched a beloved franchise with tabletop games and spawned video games, collectible card games, comics and eventually inspired a feature film. The all-star team developing the new edition is spectacular and we can’t wait for fans to return to the Citadel!”

Set in the Mutant Chronicles universe, the story takes players on a full-throttle dieselpunk sci-fi ride through a solar system beset by corporate intrigue and the invasion of a terrible dark alien force. With technology failing due to the insidious effects of the Dark Symmetry, humankind must fight back against the Dark Legion hordes while dealing with mutiny and conspiracy within. Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel takes place during one of the great wars against the Dark Legion as humanity musters the greatest army under Cardinal Durand and the DoomTroopers of the Cartel to assault Alakhai’s terrifying Citadel.

“The making of Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel has brought together an amazing line-up of A-list designers who were chomping at the bit to create a second edition of this fan-favorite game,” says Modiphius’ publishing director Chris Birch. “We can’t wait to bring this classic game to a new generation of gamers.”

Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel will be a massive boxed miniatures board game featuring 40 new sculpts, new double-sided tiles, new rules and new creatures. This 2nd edition of the iconic techno fantasy board game returns with original designer Richard Borg (Memoir 44), with Kevin Wilson (Descent), Eric Lang (Blood Rage) and Jay Little (X:Wing), as well as artist Henning Ludvigsen (Imperial Assault, Decent, Mansions of Madness), renowned Bauhaus novelist Anders Fager, artist Stefan Kopinksi and sculptors Gael Gaumon, Valerio Terranova led by Paolo Parente. The Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel launches today with Pledges, Stretch Goals and other exciting plans to expand the gameplay.

The original Siege of the Citadel was one of the first games of its kind to offer character development and the unique rotating Dark Legion player, amongst other groundbreaking ideas. Conceived by Sweden’s gaming powerhouse Target Games, Siege of the Citadel had television advertising in the US and hundreds of gamers still own much loved copies across the world.

You can find out more on their Kickstarter page.  It has only been online for today and it has funded over 100% which isn’t surprising since it has the names of Richard Borg, Eric Lang, and Kevin Wilson behind it.  If you are looking for a dungeon crawler that isn’t set in the same old fantasy or sci-fi setting, then be sure to check out Siege of the Citadel now.
