Kickstarter projects you should support

After backing over 20 projects, I can officially say that I am obsessed with Kickstarter. I wrote a blog post about it last year in April, but so many new things have happened since then! For those who haven’t heard about Kickstarter, it’s basically a place where people can create projects to get funded. Whether they are in production or near completion, the creators are obligated to complete their project and reward Backers. Each Backer pledges a certain amount and receive different tiers of rewards.

This is my short list of projects that you should consider backing. For the most part I have personally shelled out some money for these projects, but for those that I am hesitant in spending money for I’ve decided to feature as well (because they’re cool ideas and you may personally think it is worth the money!)

Art

Meme the World

This project encourages people to grab a mug with a cute design on it, photograph it, upload it to a blog and pass it along. It’s a really neat concept!

The PixelWho Project – Original Doctor Who Art Prints by Nathan Skreslet

For those who love the Doctor Who series and the pixelated look, I recommend decorating your room with these prints!

Comics

NIKO and the Sword of Light – Fully Animated Comicbook

Comic books are sweet, but an animated comic book with voices and all is even sweeter! This is a really unique project that you should consider investing in.

Design

Lace Anchors 2.0: A simple design for simple people.

These are quite affordable plastic molds that basically change your tie-up shoes into slip-ons! They’re a very functional and useful product!

Rhino Shield: The Impact Resistant Screen Protector or Impact & Super Scratch Resistant Screen Protectors

These screen protectors are basically rivals of the Ghost Shield, but seem to be more versatile than the famous product. My friend’s screen shattered despite having the Ghost Shield, and the demonstration videos for the screen protectors look as if the screens will be 100% protected. I invested in the Rhino Shield, but both projects look very trustworthy.

Grabit Robot Multipurpose Holder

This is a super neat tool that holds up two items of your choice; sometimes putting things in jars is inconvenient when grabbing something. This project is super adorable and would be a nice addition to your home!

Re-Imagining Fast Food

“A system to prep, store and serve from your fridge or on the go. Now you can bring the restaurant home!” is the project’s main description. Essentially they are small boxes that can stack easily or fit into a larger container. It is super convenient for people who to taste ‘fresh meals’!

SNUG – An ultra chic and innovative kitchen gadget.

If you cook a lot and find your spoon or spatula falling into the pot or pan, the SNUG is for you! It’s basically a clip that attaches to the pot/pan which also holds up your utensil!

EGO! Smartmouse: a revolutionary interaction device

This bad boy will hopefully be worth all the money! It is “The first device that allows you to interact with every computer, move freely between them and access your digital identity, seamlessly”. It looks really cool, versatile and brag-worthy. At the rate they’re going, they will probably be able to meet their stretch goal (doubling the size of the cloud space).

IPX-PRO Notebook Covers

For those who hate getting their notebooks ruined, these covers are sleek, beautiful and lightweight.

Fashion

The Knotty Tie: Designed by you – Crafted by us.

Do you love whacky ties but can never find them anywhere? Well this project is for you! Just design your own and these guys will create a high-quality tie for you.

THE 10-YEAR HOODIE: Built for Life, Backed for a Decade!

If you’re the type of person who likes to stick with one comfy hoodie for all occasions, this is the project for you! If you ever find the need to mend these, the creators will do it for free!

Original Grain: All-Natural Wood & Stainless Steel Watches

If you like watches then this project may be for you…the designs are quite stylish and they have reached two stretch goals!

Film & Video

The Cyanide & Happiness Show

…Need I say more? If you love the comics and have seen some of the Youtube videos of Cyanide & Happiness

Cultivating Collectives and Culture – Japan

“We’ll be collecting video, audio, and interviews with key players of the emerging electronic sub-culture in Japan for a web documentary”. A neat little idea that costs about the same as a regular movie ticket!

Food

A Dozen Ways To Celebrate: Twelve Complete Indian Feasts

For those who love Indian food, this cook book has a 100 recipes for you to try!

Grow Jar – A Simple to use Hydrogarden in a Jar

Is growing your own food a painful process for you? Then invest in this jar, where it requires no watering or guess-work!

Strange Donuts

These donuts look very delicious; it’s rare when food projects ship outside of America, so if you’re willing to give them some money then help fund this project!

Bread: A Beginner’s Guide

Ever wanted to make bread? This affordable book is a great way to start!

Games

Zombicide: Season 2

Although pricey, this board game has nabbed over a million in funding! It’s about zombies, of course, and since it’s “season 2”, you’re assured that it’s a popular game!

Net Gain: Corporate Espionage

This is “A strategy video game of Near Future Corporate Espionage! Investigate, plan missions, hire operatives, and dominate your competitors!” Good enough for me!

Artisan Dice Does Handcrafted Polyhedrals

Love collecting D-20 dice? Then consider investing in these bad boys.

STORY WAR : The Storytelling Party Game

Love card games? Story telling? Referencing pop culture? Then this game is for you!

Dungeon Roll – A Dicey Dungeon Delve

Dice games are a lot of fun, and getting extra goodies for being a backer is even better!

INFINIPUZZLE – Out of the Ordinary.

This 350-piece puzzle only has a few days left on its successful project, but if you love puzzles and get bored from solving them easily then this might be the solution for you. INFINIPUZZLE allows you to reshape the puzzle in multiple ways!

Small World 2: The Return!

If you loved the board game, consider investing in the video game version of the successful series!

Photography

World’s Most Super Amazing 100% Awesome Cat Calendar

This would be the perfect gift for cat lovers out there!

Operation Milky Way

The Milky Way is a beautiful part of nature; two photographers are on a quest to capture the perfect image!

Publishing

“Fox in the Snow” Book Launch

Children books are so adorable…and you can help support this for a minimum of $10 (with rewards of course!)

ME, FAKEGRIMLOCK: THE BOOK OF AWESOME

…Because who wouldn’t want one?

Technology

Dark Energy Reservoir: Premium Portable Charger

This is a very cool (but expensive) portable charger for anyone looking for an emergency port!

3Doodler: The World’s First 3D Printing Pen

This is a very cool pen that can allow mini sculptures at the tip of your fingers!

I hope you find yourself backing these projects because they are really quit amazing. Enjoy!

  1. I never realized how much cool stuff there was out there on KickStarter! This is why yours is the first blog I always read.

  2. Thanks for featuring our Kickstarter Campaign! We appreciate you liking the work and encouraging others to back us. It’s always nice to hear that others are supportive of the art we do.

We’ve got just two weeks left to the campaign and at 68% of our goal; so we’re doing the final push. Thanks to individuals like yourself we’re able to get the word out there and encourage others to support us before the campaign is over. Thanks a bunch! 🙂
