The 'Dark Souls' Board Game Has Raised Over $5 Million, Adds Huge New Stretch Reward

With just two hours to go before wrapping up the Dark Souls board game Kickstarter, Steamforged Games has raised over $5 million---well above their goal of $70,000.

This astronomical figure has unlocked a very big, very important stretch goal: A campaign/scenario mode for the game, which was more about random dungeon-crawling before.

The game design team is crowdsourcing ideas on the new campagin as well:

"We’re pretty excited about this, but what makes this even more exciting is that we want to work with you guys. We want to utilise our amazing backer community, to make these scenarios as intriguing and challenging as possible.

So let’s hear your ideas about what would be cool to do in the comments and via our dedicated email campaign@steamforged.com

We want to hear your ideas for the flavour/tone/setting of your scenarios. Then let us know what mini, main and mega bosses would feature. What enemies, invaders, summons and challenges would be met along the way along with what treasure, weapons and armour could be found."

Five million dollars is just a staggering sum. I do hope the game lives up to all the hype it's generated.

"We planned for this to go pretty big," the designers told me via email, "but to be on track towards being the biggest board game funded on Kickstarter is an amazing success story and testament to the Dark Souls community and their enthusiasm and commitment to the game."

Full disclosure: I did end up backing this one, as I said I might. I generally do not back projects that I write about, as a rule, simply to keep my writing as neutral and unbiased as possible. This time, however, I couldn't help myself. You simply get so much for your money, assuming everything works out. Just the miniatures all by themselves seem worth it, game or no.

Your final few minutes to back the project yourself are quickly approaching.
