“We are all “The Hero” in our own stories.”

This little nugget of wisdom was the go-to phrase of one of my good friends whenever I’d start beating myself up. Typically in the world of video games, the player is assigned the playable protagonist who plods towards a foreseeable goal. Other titles attempt to delve further into the character’s backstory, which may reveal them as an anti-hero whose only concerns are their own interests.

In the platformer Tower of Samsara, the ultimate goal is ascension, and your actions dictate what type of godly “Hero” you will become: benevolent or bloodthirsty?

As of May 3rd, 2016, the three-man team Martelo Nero launched the Tower of Samsara Kickstarter in a flurry of fanfare. Already the recipient of the Game Art prize at SBgames 2015, the campaign is already off to a great start at over $5,000 in the first 24 hours.

After watching some gameplay, I’d consider Tower of Samsara similar to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, where players can choose to spare or kill the humans that they encounter, with online mechanics similar to Bloodborne, where players can leave notes for each other throughout the game’s universe.

P.S. I’m all for death!

As an old school gamer myself, I love the use of pixel art in Tower of Samsara. If pixel art isn’t your bag, then the in-game choices or online note-sharing component should be enough to keep your interest piqued.

Benevolent benefactor, selfish elitist or warmongering overlord? Make your choice in Tower of Samsara.
