New suitcase with charging stations, GPS, a built in tablet stand and ‘all terrain’ wheels attracts $4MILLION in Kickstarter pledges

  • G-RO has a front facing exterior pocket for liquids and a tracking device
  • Design is able to smoothly travel over all types of terrain including snow
  • The suitcase, which was funded online, has a built-in charger for devices

A new suitcase which has a built in tablet stand, charging stations and a personal tracking device is hoping to change the way holidaymakers travel.

G-RO's smart design, which has received more than $4million (£2.8million) in backing from investors, has been designed to travel over all types of terrain, including gravel, snow and even grass.

The suitcase, which was crafted by the US-based company is funded through Kickstarter and Indigogo. It is hard shelled and has a built-in charger for devices as well as a front facing exterior pocket for liquids, so travellers can spend less time fumbling in their luggage at security.

Since launching last year, the G-RO case, which sits on two large wheels and has a universal power outlet, has already received millions of pounds in funding from 8,740 investors.

The modern case - which is referred to as a 'companion bag' because it can travel anywhere and everywhere with people - features GPS tracking, allowing travellers to locate their luggage, passport, camera or phone, if lost.

The bag does not come cheap however and is estimated that it will cost $499 (£350) when released.

Founder, Netta Shalgi, first thought of creating the G-RO while studying at the University of Lapland.

Speaking to MailOnline Travel, a spokeswoman for G-RO said: 'When designing G-RO, Netta made sure that everything could be managed with thick gloves

Throughout his time at the university, Shalgi said he faced a number of terrains that caused him difficulty, including frozen lakes, grass and pavement.

From that point on, he made it his goal to create a bag that he could use regardless of whether he was crossing a frozen lake or making his way around it.

'He wanted to design something more than a box that is simply carried from one place to another. That's how he came up with the large-wheeled G-RO solution.

'G-RO's large wheels are the big game-changer. They represent the first major innovation in luggage in the last 30 years.

'We have an outstanding team of people who have pushed for excellence in the design of G-RO and the execution of our crowdfunding campaigns.

'We also believe that our unique design and look really appeals to people who have personally dealt with heavy and unwieldy bags while travelling.

'We designed G-RO for on-the-go people to be large enough to take on a week-long trip yet manoeuvrable, durable and light enough for your daily commute.'
