California-based energy storage company Orison Energy has launched a Kickstarter campaign and already blown well past its goal of raising $50,000. As of the writing of this article, the campaign has reached a little over $150,000 with 38 days to go. The reasons for having a Kickstarter campaign were stated in a press release, “With the support of Kickstarter backers, Orison will complete UL certification, and finalize commercialization.”

orisonenergyThe way the campaign has been set up is intriguing. If you pledged $1,200 or more you would have received the company’s plug-and-play energy storage product with a 2.2 kWh capacity in the wall mounted form. The retail price is $1,600, so the savings would have been $400 with an expected August shipping date. However, this option is already gone.

The next pledge option is for $1,400 or more for the same product, and there are just 9 spaces left for that one. The next option is for $1,550 or more and the product you will receive has the same 2.2 kWh capacity, but it is for the free-standing tower product, not the wall mounted version. There are some spaces left for this one. (There is the same product available at the next pledge amount of $1,750.)

After these two, there is a big jump in the pledge amount to $4,400 or more, but you get an energy storage bundle, which includes several panels with an 8.8 kWh total capacity.

The next option at $5,250 is for another bundle with a 6.6 kWh total capacity – but for the free-standing towers which can rest on a floor.

If you pledge $7,400 or more you can get the biggest energy storage bundle, with a 13.2 kWh total capacity.

For a pledge of $7,550 or more, you can get 5 towers with a total capacity of 11 kWh.

Orison says its energy storage products are truly plug-and-play, so there are no installation costs. The company’s site lists the specs for both the tower and panel as:

  • 2.2 kWh capacity
  • 1.8 kW continuous, 3.5 kW peak
  • Roundtrip AC efficiency 90%
  • 10 year warranty
  • 120 Vac, single phase
  • 15 amp AC RMS
