Project Awakened Kickstarter nears end, still some way to go

Project Awakened developer Phosphor Game Studios has been turning heads recently thanks to its Unreal Engine 4 tech demo that shows off a new level of character customisation. Unfortunately it still needs just under $200,000 to turn that dream into reality with less than 30 hours of crowd-funding to go.

At the time of writing the Kickstarter campaign sits with $306,924 raised of its $500,000 goal.

The Unreal Engine 4 tech demo really is impressive. You can watch it here.

However, could this be enough to woo gamers into digging into their pockets? Speaking with Joystiq, director Chip Sineni expressed optimism that the project would hit its goal.

"We are feeling stressed, but we still feel there is time for the community to help us make this happen. We got the Unreal Engine 4 tech demo out, we announced Austin Wintory joining as the composer and a lot of Kickstarters have last-minute surges."

If crowd-funding fails the game will still continue, but Sineni warned that production could go slowly and that it may not hit its proposed December 2014 release date.

"We knew that Project Awakened is such an innovative, outside-of-the-box, kind of idea, that this would be a challenging funding route to take.

"If we don't make the $500K we have to keep making the game very slowly in our spare time, if nothing else comes up for funding elsewhere – we will keep looking. We would not be able to promise a 2014 beta, and it would likely take a long time to complete."

If successful, Project Awakened would join a growing list of developers that made their target at the final hurdle, such as Peter Moleyneux's Godus and David Braben's Elite: Dangerous.
