In Seattle, we know all too well what those long, dark days do to us after a while.

A Kickstarter featuring a new smart lamp called Ario might help us better adjust through our ruthless, gray winters. How? By providing lighting that acts like natural sunlight.

As the creators state, the lamp acts more like the sun, and it can sense your natural schedule and adjust accordingly to suit your lifestyle.

“Today’s indoor lighting is static, as if the sun were fixed in the sky,” they write on Kickstarter. “This is unnatural and has major implications on our sleep, mood, immune system, weight, and overall well-being.”

They say the lamp is based on “over 15 years of scientific research from Harvard Medical School, NASA, and the NIH,” to help you with the following: Waking naturally, focusing, relaxing and falling asleep. As quantity and quality of sleep affects overall health, both physical and mental, it seems like a smart solution.

Bonus? The lamp is attractive.

The makers say Ario is easy to use: Plug it in, connect to WiFi via an app, and let it figure out your ideal lighting schedule.

The project is already funded, at over $92,000, but still has 42 days to go. A pledge of $219 secures you one lamp 45 percent off retail price, and it is expected to deliver by September 2016.
