Welcome to VGChartz’s August Kickstarter picks! Before we get to the picks, however, below are some excellent Kickstarters that didn’t quite make the list for August but which are still well worth a look.

Total Amount/Goal: €64,000/€225,000

Days Left: 32

Lowest Amount for Game: €20 (About $22 USD)

Release Date: Fall 2016

Next Stretch Goal: Additional Languages + More Consumables (€350K)

Kickstarter has given life to countless 3D space shooters/adventures over the years, including Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen, and Descent: Underground. German developer ROCKFISH Games is now hoping to enter that crowded genre with its new space shooter, EVERSPACE. ROCKFISH Games plans on using rouge-like gameplay elements to differentiate itself from those other titles.

Everspace

While EVERSPACE focusses on more on combat than anything else, it will feature some resource management. Weapon/armor blueprints will allow you to upgrade your ship and resources can be used to fix any damage your ship sustains during its run. Like most rouge-like games, each time you boot up EVERSPACE you'll be presented with a unique set of challenges and scenarios. The game will also allow you to choose how to reach your destination, be it making a beeline straight towards your goal or exploring the game world.

Tsioque

Developer: OhNoo Studio

Total Amount/Goal: $12,000/$35,000

Days Left: 27

Lowest Amount for Game: $10

Release Date: Fall 2016

Next Stretch Goal: Android, iOS, and OUYA ports + Additional Languages ($45K)

Platforms: Windows and Mac

2D point & click adventure games have seen a resurgence in recent years (expect in Germany, where they never really declined in popularity in the first place), thanks in large part to the growth of Kickstarter and Steam. With the genre’s rebirth, Polish developer OhNoo Studio is hoping to make its second adventure title, Tsioque. The company's first game was Tormentum – Dark Sorrow, which boasted nightmarish yet beautiful art that would have made H.R. Giger blush. With Tsioque the developer has decided to adopt a more charming, cartoonish art style.

Tsi

In Tsioque you control the titular princess, who must gain back control of her castle from the Vile Wizard. As in most click & point adventure games you must solve puzzles throughout your journey, but beware; you can die at any point, be it because you solved a puzzle too slowly or chose the wrong course of action. Tsioque’s life is in your hands as you uncover the mysteries of the castle and find a way to remove the Vile Wizard from his position of power.

Spark the Electric Jester

Spark Banner

Developer: Felipe Ribeiro Daneluz

Total Amount/Goal: $7,500/$7,000

Days Left: 17

Lowest Amount for Game: $10

Release Date: Spring 2016

Next Stretch Goal: Combo System ($11K)

Platforms: Windows and Mac

Sadly, the days of mascot platformers are mostly a thing of the past. Mario is still doing well, but Sonic... well, it's better not to talk about that poor abused hedgehog at this point. Spark is hoping to fill the empty hole in 2D platforming that Sonic left, adopting aspects from classic titles like Sonic, Dynamite Heady and Kirby. The game follows Spark as he hunts down the robot that stole his job, destroying all who come between him and his path to re-employment!

Spark

As Spark you will navigate through non-linear stages, using your abilities to avoid obstacles and defeat enemies. The game will contain various hidden paths as well as references to games of the 16-bit era. Spark’s main power is his ability to transform into various different jesters when he consumes a certain item. Each form has its own unique abilities (like flying or controlling gravity), which can be used to fight enemies or help you progress through the stage.

Poi

Developer: PolyKid

Total Amount/Goal: $12,000/$80,000

Days Left: 25

Lowest Amount for Game: $20

Release Date: Summer 2016

Next Stretch Goal: Mac Port ($90K)

Platforms: Windows and Wii U

I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but the 3D platformer genre has also seen better days. But again, Kickstarter has given new life to the genre with the likes of Yooka-Layee and A Hat in Time. Developer PolyKid is hoping that its game Poi will achieve similar recognition. Poi has taken a few pointers from Banjo-Kazooie and Mario 64 in the gameplay mechanics department, with your character being able to traverse across various landscapes and worlds.

Poi

Each world has its own unique theme, and adds new challenges and obstacles to overcome. The regular worlds are built like Mario 64’s Bob-Omb Battlefield - large and usually one solid piece of land - while Poi’s secret levels are similar to those in Super Mario Sunshine secret levels (unconnected, floating objects or islands). Your goal in each world is to collect Medallions which open up more worlds.

Tower 57

Tower 57

Developer: Benitosub

Total Amount/Goal: €15,000/€45,000

Days Left: 24

Lowest Amount for Game: €12 (About $13 USD)

Release Date: Spring 2016

Next Stretch Goal: Modding Tools (€50K)

Platforms: Windows, Mac and Linux

When cyberpunk, utopian concepts, and the 1920s get together bad things are bound to happen. In the world of Tower 57 mankind has built Towers, which were meant to be humanity's utopia. Sadly, things haven’t worked out so well in practice; the Towers are now locked in a cold war with one another, and Tower 57 is reportedly about to launch an invasion that will end the war once and for all. Your job is to infiltrate the Tower, find out what’s going on, and destroy any potential threat Tower 57 poses to the other Towers.

Tower 57

Tower 57 is a twin stick shooter in which you make your way up the titular tower, destroying whatever gets in your way. The game features six different types of characters to choose from, each of which has its own perks and special skills. Tower 57 also features a variety of weapons, from the simple tommy gun to a black hole generator. One of the most important features of the game is the fact that it supports local co-op; destroying waves of enemies is always best with a friend by your side, after all.
