When Irrational Games downsized it was a disaster for many, but for others it was an opportunity. The Molasses Flood, composed of former developers of BioShock, Halo, Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises, soon formed and started work on The Flame in the Flood.

Their Kickstarter was quickly funded, and before it was over came in at more than $250,000. For the team of six, that gave them a little breathing room to get out an early beta version, which was released to backers — on time — just a few days ago.

Described as a "rogue-lite river journey," it takes the survival genre and pushes it in new narrative directions with a quirky art style and an evocative soundtrack. Polygon recently got some time with the team at E3, a story you can read more about here.

We've been given special early access to the game, and we're eager to share it with you. Tune in from 4:15 until 5:45 p.m. ET and let's see what TFITF is all about.

For those tuning in late, you'll be able to watch the archived stream above as well.
