Purrfectly Ever After - Demo Review

So I’ve apparently had this floating around in my drafts for the last three days. Sorry for the delay!

In case you didn’t get to my first impressions post, Purrfectly Ever After is the first game by a new studio called Weeev. If you want to learn more or donate to the Kickstarter, you can visit the official tumblr!

Basics

The story seems to be set a little in the future, where there are flying cars, but the setting is familiar enough that I didn’t feel lost. The MC here is a cat named Pastel (though you will be able to change this in the full game) who leads a group of other cats (and one dog) in stealing food from restaurants. She gets captured by the police (don’t they have anything better to do?) and escapes directly into traffic. She is rescued from an oncoming car by Sirius, whose picture is first up there ^. From there, our protagonist meets the other four main romance options (in order, Yoshino, Cassian, Kofuji, and Kale) and learns a little about them. All of them try to help Pastel in one way or another.

Highlights

The story concept is very unique and imaginative, and I think the routes will be very interesting based on what I’ve seen. The MC is a kleptomaniac cat, which has all kinds of potential for cuteness when learning how to be human and not steal everything.

The art and backgrounds, as you can see above, are gorgeous (probably should have taken more screenshots). The team has assured us that the characters will have more expressions, which I can’t wait to see. The character designs are extremely diverse and each very attractive.

The demo is voiced well, and each character has a distinctive sound. I was surprised by how deep Kale’s voice was! There’s only one complaint I have about this area, and that’s that Cassian’s voice clips are too quiet and hard to hear over the music.

The music is nice also, providing ambiance without distracting you from the game itself.

Not-so-Highlights

The prologue is not any shorter than a standard otome prologue, but I think it may seem short because you don’t get to spend much time with each potential love interest (most of the words are spent on setup). I think letting us play the first chapter of a route before buying would be helpful in choosing a guy.

The only major issue I have so far is the grammar. The spelling is fine and the writing is completely understandable, but it’s a little clunky and distracting in general. I know that English is not the first language of the developers, and I also know they’re working on finding a writer to improve on this aspect, so I have complete faith that it will improve!

Overall

All in all, the demo is just that- a demonstration of what the full game will be like. It isn’t perfect yet, but the potential here is excellent and I still definitely want to play it (I’m kind of feeling Yoshino at this point…). I have already contributed to the Kickstarter, and I think you should too, especially if you’re into unique and different otome games.
