This sculpture “The Messenger” was inspired by the war pigeons of history that were used to carry messages over enemy lines. I hand carved the bird and had it molded.

I thought it would be a neat idea to have each person who receives it to keep it for a while, then write a note of their own, place it inside and give it away! So, you see, it is the first gift designed to be regifted.

Each pigeon has a tracking number and is meant to be regifted over and over again so that you may follow it in our online map forever.

Inspired By Pigeons Of History

The Messenger was inspired by the working pigeons that bravely carried messages across enemy lines during times of war. These intelligent birds (like their human counterparts) were often wounded, killed and even decorated with honors for their service. They were credited for saving thousands of lives and changing the course of battles. The earliest documented use of pigeons by an army was by the Romans over 2,000 years ago. Fascinating isn’t it?
