You want the moon? Just say the world and I’ll throw a lasso around and pull it down.

Take a good look at the moon, my friends. Ah, that beloved moon. So large, beautiful, and full of craters from years of meteor target practice. Now, imagine life without said moon. Let’s queue that moon montage for you folks.

Well, maybe the cheesy 80’s theme song about friendship was too much but that was quite sentimental, wasn’t it?

That’s a nice moon you’ve got there. It’d be a shame if something were to happen to it.

Did I say guns? Because there are guns. Plenty of them.

Did I say guns? Because there are guns. Plenty of them.

And something did happen to it. Something most grave and horrible, that we don’t even know what it is. But it happened. It is extremely bad. It destroyed our moon and nothing will ever be the same.

A cataclysmic event has blown up our most loved and cherished moon, leaving pieces of it scattered all over the place and  the world is engulfed in chaos and mayhem. It’s up to your character to find and collect them. We don’t know why and we don’t need to; maybe you’re just a swell dude like that.

Moon Rift is the crowdfunded game project by Sam Hutcher, a passionate game designer eager to finally make his own game. It is a 2.5D platformer with a heavy concentration on random generation, whether it is with levels or weaponry, you name it. Boredom simply is impossible due to the endless possibilities and combinations.

GUNS, GUNS, AND MORE GUNS!

Build up a collection of weaponry with all sorts of customization options.

Speaking of weaponry is you want variety, you’re in luck! It has been designed to have a virtually endless supply of weaponry for your liking.  There is quite the assortment of basic abilities for your gun side-kick to perform. Who wouldn’t want boomerang bullets or flameballs? The more destructive the better.

There is a special ability bar resting beneath your health that by pressing the glorious shift button, you’re enabling slow motion  pandemonium against enemies with an extra oomph in your shots. Press shift and you shall conquer.

As you progress through Moon Rift, you’ll collect various bits of ammunition and add-ons which come in handy post-level, including the moon pieces. Visit the gun shoppe and upgrade store to make your guns even more disturbingly awesome. Turn those moon pieces into moon stones and give your gun a boost. Design the weapon just for you, obliterate all the monsters.

Each level is generated differently with different appearances.

Oh my, I’d almost forgotten about the monsters. On each level, enemies are crawling about with a serious thirst for murder. As you advance through the level, there is plenty of experience to be gained which levels up your character. With level progression, you can customize the effects your weapons will have, like in an RPG.

Moon Rift intended to be released for IOS, Android, PC, MAC, Linux, and the OUYA. At the moment, the demo has been released and open to anyone interested in giving it a shot. The full version of Moon Rift was intended to be released fall 2013, but has been pushed back temporarily.
