As such, the biggest way to stand out often relies on having a very unique art style as opposed to necessarily doing something completely different with gameplay. Hollow Knight has a distinct look that is definitely drawing attention on Kickstarter. Developer Team Cherry have created a 2D environment filled with hand drawn and animated artwork. Although the landscape looks dark and dreary, the insect inhabitants all feel lively.

Hollow Knight is a 2D metroidvania featuring beautiful graphics and an adorably deadly protagonist. It's crowdfunding on Kickstarter now.Hollow Knight seems best described as a Metroidvania. By that I mean it is a game where you’ll be exploring through many, many connected rooms and discover neat new skills as you wander about. Of course, you’ll also be sure to come across regular enemies and bosses. The title expects to be a real challenge to players, requiring multiple attempts to finally build up the skills required to proceed. Along the way you may discover hidden rooms, treasures, and other neat stuff isn’t inherently required to proceed. One strange aspect that hasn’t been detailed heavily yet is that of “dream diving,” wherein you enter the mind of a friend or foe. It sounds potentially cool – but we’ve got to hear more about it first.

Would you like to support Hollow Knight on its path to completion? If so, you can help fund the campaign toward its $35,000 AUD (about $30,100) goal. The game is being made with Windows, Mac, and Linux computers in mind. There’s no Steam Greenlight link up just yet, but one should go live shortly.
