If you remember the old Gold Box RPGs from SSI, games like Pools of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds, then you'll likely be interested in Seven Dragon Saga. The game is in development at TSI, a studio made up of SSI veterans, and they've taken to Kickstarter to try and raise $450k for their debut title.

Six-character parties will venture out into the new fantasy setting, engage in turn-based combat, explore ruins, and fight and parley their way through the world; much as they did back in the old Forgotten Realms classics of the 90s. As their campaign states early on: "It's been far too long since you played an RPG like this!"

The team is being led by David Shelley, who was a designer that worked on many of those early SSI titles. Along with another SSI alumni, Paul Murray, the team are looking to bring back the classic RPG gameplay of yesteryear, of course with a modern twist.

"We've been extremely encouraged and supported by the community so far, and Kickstarter is the right fit for us. The game is already months into production but we're far from finished. As veterans of SSI, we remember the freedom of being our own publisher. Taking our vision and creating the best game possible is the primary concern," explains the company.

"We're now going through a process of upgrading and improving many of the early systems. We'll use the funding for much needed programming, art, music and sound. This will see us through to a polished and expansive product that our audience will expect and enjoy."

There's some way to go, but after just a couple of days they've already managed to attract more than $50k, so the future is looking good for the campaign, which is due to end on April 13. Seven Dragon Saga is set to be released on PC, Mac and Linux.
