(Los Angeles, CA) – One of the most anticipated new craft breweries in Southern California will release its first beer this month. Named a brewery to watch in 2013 by LA Weekly, Los Angeles Ale Works will launch its flagship Gams-Bart beer at six bars around the city. Founded by Kristofor Barnes and John Rockwell, LA Ale Works’ first brew is the culmination of twelve years of friendship and four years of perfecting their brewing skills.

“It’s been an incredible journey becoming a part of the LA craft beer community,” said the pair. “And we can’t wait to get our first beer on tap. This industry is unlike any other – the great breweries that currently exist in LA have amazing people behind them and they have all helped us along the way. We have been working like crazy to get to this point and although we still have a ways to go, this is an awesome time for LA Ale Works!”

LA Ale Works’ first commercial beer is the Gams-Bart, a Bavarian Style Roggenbier. This unconventional style is most like a Bavarian Hefeweizen but uses rye instead of wheat. The beer the public will enjoy is the result of years of perfecting the recipe by Kristofor and John. Last year, it was awarded a bronze medal in the final round of the National Home Brew Competition.

Kristofor and John will introduce the Gams-Bart with a series of events at local bars and restaurants, beginning with Beer Belly in Koreatown on February 23. The next day, Culver City’s City Tavern will host a Pint Night featuring the beer. There will also be an event at Far Bar on Friday evening, March 1. More launch parties are in the works, visit the brewery’s website for the full schedule: www.losangelesaleworks.com.

Before they were business partners, the duo behind LA Ale Works were friends. Kristofor and John both graduated from USC where they were members of the Trojan Marching Band. Each also met his wife at the university. They’ve been actively involved in the local craft beer community for years, covering home brewing tips and the craft industry on the website they started, www.bierkast.com. Kristofor also recently helped found the LA Beer Bloggers group.

The budding brewers launched a Kickstarter campaign last Friday to coincide with the debut of Gams-Bart and are seeking private investors to raise money for a permanent location in the city. Emphasizing innovation, they are developing more unique beers as well as a black rice sake and a non-alcoholic Thai tea soda. With the public taste for craft beer beginning to consume Los Angeles, the brewery that proudly bears its name is ready to pour them a well-crafted pint.
