Over the past few years we’ve seen a huge resurgence in retro-styled pixel art games because many developers who grew up with that stuff are finally creating their own titles. It seems that trend may be evolving to include those who adore early polygonal games too. Spooky Poo’s Happy Hell, which just landed on Kickstarter, is inspired by the likes of the classic platformer Super Mario 64 but with a very different style. In this game you play as Spooky Poo, a black cat-like creature with a big red nose. Spooky wants a wish granted and somehow The Devil catches word and decides to help. However, The Devil grants the condition that Spooky Poo must survive all nine levels of Happy Hell to receive it!

Players will explore the odd, hellish environments and can choose to play it the “harder” way or “easier” way. By selling bits and pieces of Spooky’s soul you’re able to gain a variety of new abilities. These include a cape for flying, bullets for your nose, and farting because why not? It will be possible to complete stages without these additional powers but there is more challenging in doing it that way. Each stage has a minimum of six goals to achieve within it, and each rewards players with a Good Thing (a cute, cuddly heart which has no place in Hell, happy or otherwise).

Spooky Poo’s Happy Hell seems impressively odd in a wonderful way. Developer Occultimate Games is asking for $13,666 to fund their game. Feel free to spread the word or even just give the devilish platformer an upvote on Steam Greenlight.
