Keiji Inafune crowdfunding DLC for his crowdfunded Mighty No. 9

Wants $190K for new boss and new stage.

Japanese game developer Keiji Inafune is crowdfunding downloadable content for his already crowdfunded side-scrolling platformer Mighty No. 9 game.

Hey I'm Ray.

His studio, Comcept, announced that if it reaches another $190K via slacker backers by the end of 2014, all backers will get a bonus DLC code to download an extra level and boss due out summer 2015. The new boss is called Ray, a rival to main character Beck.

Mighty No. 9 raised an impressive $3.8m off of over 67,000 backers on Kickstarter.

Perhaps anticipating a negative reaction to the announcement, Comcept discussed what it called "potential DLC".

"We want to stress that none of the developers have or would begin working in earnest on this DLC until their work is done on the Mighty No. 9 retail release," the studio said in an update on Kickstarter.

Comcept then published a breakdown of its costs for the DLC, saying $190K is the minimum amount it needs to create it.

This isn't the first time Inafune has gone back to crowdfunding for Mighty No. 9. In July Comcept launched a second successful crowdfunding campaign for side-scrolling platformer Mighty No. 9, using PayPal to raise money for bonus content: full English voice acting for $100K.
