Kickstarter campaign on to build real-life X-Wing fighter

The "Star Wars" saga continues ... on crowdfunding site Kickstarter.

Barely a month after the White House rejected a petition to build a working Death Star, a rival movement was launched —this time to build X-wing fighters, CNET reported.

"If George Lucas produced 'Star Wars IV, A New Hope,' for $11,000,000 we figure we can finance a prototype of an X-Wing and train a pilot," it quoted organizer Simon Kwan, a product designer in Shanghai, as saying.

But he added one update for the modern-day X-Wing is to have integration with Apple's iPhone and voice-activated assistant Siri.

The X-wing movement came after the project to construct the Death Star was launched, getting some 1,500 backers and $364,772 in pledges.

For the X-wing backers, they aim to build a squadron for $4,485,672,683 - the figure referring to the worldwide box office take of all the "Star Wars" films.

Aside from that, they aim to get a heavily modified Class YT-1300 Freighter and a crew consisting of a Corellian smuggler and a Wookie co-pilot. — TJD, GMA News
