Thursday Tabletop Kickstarter Update – What is more American than boardgames?

Happy pre-’Murica day. Before you go outside for lawn games and burger chowing, be sure to check out some of these upcoming Kickstarters. New to these parts? Here is a handy introduction. Presented in no particular order, I give you this week’s projects.

Remember that I am in no way endorsing these games, I have not played them, I have not talked to the publishers. Back at your own risk.

Sugar and Spice
Apparent Weight: Lightweight Medium
Genre: Set Collection, Meal Fixing, Trading

This is a hard one to get a feeling for, I wish they would have more about gameplay on the Kickstarter page. It looks like it might be roll and move game, but it also may be better than that. I have to give them credit for the awesome theme and art. Cooking is a theme that is rarely done well… just like my steak.

OPHIR
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: The Euro Trifecta: Pick Up and Deliver, Set Collection, Resource Management

Terra Nova Games is rather active on Twitter; which is where I first read mumblings of Ophir. This game takes tried and true mechanisms from classic strategy games and attempts to go their own direction with them. Their project page is full of reviews and testimonials if you are looking for more information, and it looks like you can even demo the game online before you back.

Harbour
Apparent Weight: Medium-Light
Genre: Action Selection, Market Manipulation, Gratuitous ‘U’s

Riding on the hype of the micro game craze, Tasty Minstrel has launched their not-so-micro-but-still-smallish Euro game Harbour. Harbour looks to fill an elusive boardgame niche with meaningful strategies, while still being played in twenty minutes. Always one to put on a good show, TMG is providing a long list of stretch goals with plenty of material to satisfy the most curious backer.

YOMI
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Strategic Card Based Fighting Game

Does anyone remember the card based fighting game I mentioned three weeks ago? Here’s another one. Yeah, Yomi is also a reprinting of a successful fighting game that came out in 2011. This means that there is plenty of material to research if you are interested in the game.

Historia
Apparent Weight: Medium
Genre: Simultaneous Action Selection, Civilization Building

I can see how some people would be all over this. Giochix.it has been publishing games for the Italian market for a few years, and are now working with Mage Company to bring Historia to your table. Rules and Reviews are posted. The box cover looks good, but I don’t know how I feel about that board.

From Trading in the Mediterranean to FPS, I love games. While I grew up in a house without consoles, PC gaming and board gaming were a large part of my formative years, and continue to influence my life. In this golden age of board gaming, I have jumped in headfirst in to anything table top. As a ludilogical student, I love thinking about how games work, their mechanics, their elegance and most importantly, enjoying how fun they are.

Favorite Board Game (at the moment): Twilight Struggle
Favorite PC Game (base solely on play time): Tie between WoW and DII
