"Intrinsic" K-12 Gaming with Mathbreakers

Apr 25, 2014

REWARDING MATH WITH… MATH?: Gaming in K-12 classrooms should be intrinsic, and speak to instructional design. That’s what Dr. Matthew Lynch argues in a recent blogpost on EdWeek. He calls out new tool Mathbreakers as endeavoring to do this with a gaming environment that “blows normal worksheet-esque applications out of the proverbial water,” and includes a quote from gamer Christian Perfect: "Most 'fun with math' games… provide extrinsic motivation: do the math, and then you get a reward. In Mathbreakers, the math is the game, and the reward for doing it is more math. Heaven!"
