A Kickstarter campaign for Superhot, a new first-person shooter with a unique time mechanic, has just launched, with the developer seeking $100k so they can bring their game to market on PC, Mac and Linux.

"The gameplay mechanic behind Superhot is something unique, but it's also challenging to get it done exactly right. With Kickstarter we want to get feedback from our awesome fans, involve them in the development process and use that to make the game even better. All funds will go directly into hiring additional help and paying for necessary development tools," programmer and PR man Luke Spierewka told Gamereactor.

Superhot

The first-person shooter (you can play a prototype version of the game here) raced through the Steam Greenlight process in just a couple of days, and has caught plenty of attention thanks to its unique mechanic, whereby time only moves forward when you yourself are moving. We've tried the prototype and it's certainly a distinctive experience and well worth a look.

The game, if funded, will come complete with a story-driven single-player campaign, an endless arena "Infinite Mode", plus new weapons, levels, enemy types and slow-motion explosions. The Superhot team are also promising Oculus Rift support, which could be incredible given the nature and style of the game.

As mentioned, Superhot is heading to PC, Mac and Linux, but we wondered whether the game might ever end up on console, or whether that was part of their longterm plans. Spierewka told us: "Right now we're focusing on PC/Mac/Linux, but we'd love to make console ports of the game after we launch. We haven't decided on the platforms yet."

If you want to pledge your support for the game, you can find out more about the title by heading this way. Pledges start at $14 and go all the way up $10k. Check out the Steam Greelight trailer below, we'll update with the new Kickstarter trailer shortly.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"If you can look past the slightly underwhelming narrative layer, you're left with an intense puzzle-shooter hybrid that encourages flair and audacity."
