sir1A while back I did an Early Access Review of Sir, You Are Being Hunted telling you guys what you could expect if you bought the beta version of the game. However on the 1st of May the game was released and version 1.0 is available now. It’s time to take another look at Sir, You Are Being Hunted and see what has changed.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Sir, You Are Being Hunted, or haven’t read the Early Access Review, a short recap. Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a procedurally generated and very British stealth game by Big Robot. You have to survive on some islands in an archipelago while collecting pieces of a strange device that will take you back home. You are not alone however, there are all sorts of robots who hunt humans for sport.

sir3Gameplay wise not a lot has changed. You still have to hide from robots and search for food, weapons and other useful items and you still have to bring pieces of the device back to the center island. If you want to have more details on the gameplay and such, check out the Early Access Review. There are also a lot of changes however.

The first big change since I last played the game was the addition of a new type of island, Castle. I was very excited to see how this would look like so I rushed over to the island immediately. It was fantastic. All kinds of castle ruins are spread over the island with informational signs and gift shops everywhere, like a tourist spot. The gift shops are just like the houses, items are stored in them and you can access these items through the door. Some ruins are climbable and make for a perfect stake-out spot.

Another difference I noticed is the music. When I last looked at Sir, You Are Being Hunted there wasn’t really any music when playing the game, but now there is. It blends in with the other sounds, so it definitely adds to the atmosphere of the game.

sir2A last cool difference are the notes that are now scattered around the islands. When collecting the notes you will find out what exactly happened in the archipelago. You already know that the robots came and killed all the human, but now the story gets more depth. For instance, when the robots first arrived, they tried to convince the humans that the came in peace and that the townspeople should not hesitate to make small talk with them… I guess the townsfolk shouldn’t have believed them.

sir4There are still a few minus points in Sir, You Are Being Hunted. The first thing is that the procedurally generated worlds are still a bit bugged sometimes. I came across a house which was sort of wedged into the mountains, which made most of the doors inaccessible. The second thing is that the game asked a lot of my computer, even though its specs are way better than the recommended ones. I played with the settings a bit, but even with the graphical settings on low the game lagged when there were robots near. I don’t know if Sir, You Are Being Hunted just asks so much, or if it’s maybe too heavy for its engine, but it’s one of the lesser points of the game.

Still, I don’t think that should keep you from buying Sir, You Are Being Hunted. It’s tremendously fun, sneaking and hiding from robots and exploring this British steam punk like world. If you’re into stealth games and robots, this is definitely one to try out!
