Welcome to our weekly feature, “Question Of The Week.”  As you can tell from that entirely original title each week we pose a question to our panel and they chime in with their opinions.  No one sees one another’s responses until the story is posted, so each contributors thoughts are their own.  Responses are posted in no particular order.

And remember, as with all editorials, the views expressed in this editorial are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent the views or opinions of Cliqist.com.

The question of the week for the week of 5/4/14 is :

What crowdfunded game are you most looking forward to?

julieOh, man! First game that came to mind was Paradise Lost: First Contact. I’m so freaking stoked for this game! When I first did a little research on the project, I was completely captivated in the concept. I may have watched the Kickstarter video a dozen times.  The story reminds me of plenty of science fiction films from the 70’s and 80’s that have a special place in my heart. Surprisingly, it’s your typical character swap. Normally, the aliens are portrayed as the danger to humanity and they must be stopped. But what if we are the danger to ourselves? This game delivers so much that I get excited about in games: fantastic art style, great story direction, and a nice balance between action and storytelling. I’m in love with the concept and know it’s going to be a good day when I get to play it.

nathanielJeez. Greg, how can you be asking a question like this? I’m excited about more than half of the stuff I write announcements about! If I had to pick one, I’d go with Heart Forth, Alicia. First of all, I’m a huuuuge sucker for 16 bit graphics, Metroidvania is at least in my top 3 favorite genres, and I’m all about magic. Not only that, but Heart Forth, Alicia has decimated a ton of stretch goals so far. That’s one I’ll be buying on launch, for sure, and I don’t think it would be a waste of time for our readers to go check it out too! It looks like it’s going to be amazing, and if you want to grab a reward tier, time is short!

I’m really looking forward to Star Citizen. I mean, obviously, since I’m putting together some articles on how to get into the game that will go more and more into detail as they go along. You should read those, by the way. I’m as nervous as I am excited, though. Star Citizen has made a lot of promises, and I’m beginning to think there might be too many to keep. The idea, the concept, sounds incredible. A free-roaming spaceship game, where you’re always in direct control of your ship, in a universe that is constantly changing and evolving based on how people play the game? Sign me right the hell up.

Even if it doesn’t turn out the way we all hope it does, surely it’ll still be a memorable experience. Only time will tell.

Now here’s a question that I could go on and on about for way too long. However, I’ll try and keep things focused on one extremely special game. The crowdfunded game I’m most looking forward to is Coming Out On Top which was funded at the start of 2013. What is so exciting about it is that it’s a dating sim. This is a pretty rare genre to find in the West. Second, it’s focused on gay romance which is another rarity in games from, well, anywhere. So far the demos have shown it to be well-written and steamy. There’s still no release date announced but if doesn’t release by the end of this year I may very well implode.

suzanneThe game I’m looking forward to the most is actually The Eldritch Cases: Dagon. I’m a huge H.P. Lovecraft fan and I’m always up for an adaptation of his work. I’ve played other Lovecraft inspired games, like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which I absolutely loved, but never a point-and-click adventure game, so I’m excited to see how that works out. Also when I interviewed Thomas Busse about The Eldritch Cases: Dagon, it immediately became clear that he is extremely passionate about his project and I think that projects that are made with a lot of love and dedication always turn out the best.

I’m going to ahead and cheat this week and name two titles. The first is Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the medieval single player RPG from Warhorse. Sure, it’s not exactly an artsy game from a scrappy two person team living out of their parents’ garage, but have you seen it? Being a huge fan of the Hidden & Dangerous and Mafia series means I have a lot of faith that the team will put together an enjoyable experience.

The other game is Satellite Reign from 5 Lives. The best way to describe Satellite Reign is to call it the Syndicate update we should have had a long time ago. I’m nervous that we’ve seen so little of it at this point, but there’s so much potential that I can’t ignore it.
