flyinghamster2Just look at this game. Look at it. Game Atelier is back and looking for help to make a sequel to the original Flying Hamster and it looks phenomenal. It’s cute, it’s crisp, it’s clean, it’s well designed, but will it be good? Only time and taste will tell, but I’m here to provide you with all you need to know to decide if Flying Hamster II is right for you. Let’s get started, shall we?

The first thing that you notice about Flying Hamster II is its completely adorable and highly polished art style, and I’m really into that, but the gameplay can’t be ignored. Classic platformer gameplay mixed in with elements of action, RPG, and puzzle gameplay are what make this game unique and worth keeping an eye on. Metroidvania gameplay is also subtly implied by the game’s focus on exploration and gear collecting, which is reinforced by the ability to transform into many different animal forms to overcome new obstacles along the way. In promotional gifs on Flying Hamster’s Kickstarter, we see different forms swinging from pegs, stealing enemy shields, climbing on walls, and spitting lasers and fire at bad guys in addition to rotating levels and a huge world map.

Flying Hamster II is currently seeking $150,000 in funding on Kickstarter for a release on Steam, but if the company manages to double that, the game will be release on Xbox One and PS4, in addition to many other platforms being planned for later stretch goals including 3DS and Playstation Vita. Check out Flying Hamster II by Game Atelier. If it isn’t on your radar, you may want it to be.
