My only memory of EverQuest was buying it the day it launched.  I played it for a total of two hours that following week.  The idea of the game was enchanting, even if the execution was lost in a horrendous foreshadowing of the problems online gaming would have from that time on.  Even after abandoning the game I had the urge to explore its expansive world full of magic and mystery, experience the joy of being tormented by those with more free time than myself, and see first-hand how the game grew.  Unfortunately for my fantasy alter ego, the Dreamcast was released not long after EverQuest’s initial launch and there was no looking back.

Until now.

pantheon2Brad McQuaid, the original big brain behind the classic MMO is hitting up the Kickstarter crowd to help fund a brand new time sucking pit of enjoyment; Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.  If you take a look at the Pantheon Kickstarter page you’ll get all sorts of background on the world in which Pantheon takes place, how combat is being handled, and the importance of community.  But really all you need to do is take a look at some bullet point highlights:

  • A heavy focus on character development, an immersive world, and teamwork.
  • Travel where and when you want to in a non-linear world.
  • Customize your class by bonding with the spirits of fallen warriors.
  • Combat will be challenging and involved — your decisions will matter and directly affect the battle’s outcome.
  • Earning experience is only part of what it takes to level up. Exploring the world you will gain knowledge and power allowing you to overcome more powerful enemies.

If you think Pantheon : Rise of the Fallen has the power to make your online dreams come true make sure you donate some coin to help Brad and his team hit their $800,000 goal before the February 22nd deadline arrives.
