Chris Taylor and the crew at Gas Powered Games are at it again. The studio famous for Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, and Dungeon Siege are combining those genres into something new, and are looking towards the fans to make it happen. Wildman is an "evolutionary" action-RPG now on Kickstarter that features the action-RPG elements of Dungeon Siege, the RTS parts of Supreme Commander, and even the MOBA aspects of Demigod. Sounds interesting, doesn't it?
In Wildman, your hero, the title character, can drop into War Zones to fight battles alongside your troops. You support them with your abilities and skills, shapeshift into a different form with unique abilities, and even upgrade your troops and build defenses. Eventually you square off against the enemy champion, and once he is defeated, the battle is yours. But that's not all Wildman has to offer.
When you aren't in a War Zone, you head off for adventure like any other action-RPG. There are dungeons to explore, mysteries to discover, weapons and armor to equip, skills to train, and items to craft. It sounds like the best of both worlds really, with GPG describing it as: "fast-paced combat that tests your reflexes and deep role-playing that rewards strategic thinking."
Since Wildman is a Kickstarter game, there are a multitude of rewards tiers for donators to consider, with $20 as the start point for a digital copy of Wildman. The $30 tier includes the game's soundtrack composed by Jeremy Soule (The Elder Scrolls, Supreme Commander, Dungeon Siege) and an extra copy of the game. An early backer reward is available for the first 5,000 at $45, which includes everything in the $60 Digital Collector's Edition tier at a discount. There's still some 4,400 spots left for that early reward, but don't delay too long if you're considering.
Other tiers include bigger rewards, like a boxed copy of the Collector's Edition for $150 (or $125 for the first 500) and the Signature Edition at $500, which has an artist-signed print of Wildman and dev team signatures on the development book, poster, and game box. A launch party invitation is included at the $10,000 tier, with ones below offering everything from personalized weapons, t-shirts, extra game copies, and even a day with Chris Taylor and the team at GPG.
Wildman's Kickstarter goal is $1,100,000 and ends on February 15 at 9pm EST. The pledged amount so far is already over $50,000, so head on over to the Kickstarter page and donate to get this game funded!
I'm not really excited by this, it's sadly not something I'd otherwise be interested in if it wasn't Gas Powered Games last chance to keep solvent.
I don't agree with their reasoning for starting the kickstarter. They say they want the community to be involved in helping create it, that they've intentionally left a section(s) of the game blank because they want you to shape it. Why can't they use a forums + suggestions? .... Because to access the forums you have to pedge $$$ :/
Also, we will be getting out a new video blog in the next 24 hours!
