Yogibo Founder Says Moon Pod's $1.3 Million Kickstarter Project Ripped Off Its Idea

March 22nd - via: inc.com
The messages began turning up in Eyal Levy's inbox in June: "Hello. Just wanted to give you a heads-up about a Kickstarter project that is completely ripping off your original idea." "Have you guys been made aware of a Kickstarter called Moon Pod which is trying to claim a similar product as their own design?" Levy was aware now. For nine years, the entrepreneur had been developing Yogibo, a lifestyle company centered on new-age beanbag chairs that enfold users' bodies in a soft, squoodgey hug. Yogibo's customers were directing him to a Kickstarter campaign for Moon Pod, being marketed as the "reinvention of the beanbag," "unique," and "an experience you've never felt before." As far as Levy could tell, it was virtually identical to Yogibo's product, for which he would receive a patent in October. (Read More)

Father Knows Best: First Photo Revealed of CJ Graham as Elias Voorhees in Friday the 13th Vengeance

March 21st - via: deadentertainment.com
Last year, a Facebook page and Kickstarter campaign announced the opportunity for fans to get behind a new film that would provide a different story regarding our favorite camp slasher. Due to recent lawsuits preventing a new Friday the 13th movie, many have taken it upon themselves to keep the legacy of Crystal Lake and its hockey wearing maniac alive with fan films and projects funded by fans. Described on its Kickstarter page as “a film made by fans for the fans,” Friday the 13th Vengeance is set to pick up thirty years after where Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives left off. The story will feature CJ Graham as Elias Voorhees, Jason’s father. The actor is best known for portraying that film's version of the maniacal slasher, who gets resurrected when a lightning bolt hits a metal fence spike that Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) drove into his corpse. (Read More)

The Changing Face of Video Game Crowdfunding

March 18th - via: variety.com
Much has changed since 2012, when Double Fine cracked open video game crowdfunding with more than $3.3 million raised. The video game Kickstarter movement began as part of the indie revolution against the very concept of publishers. Kickstarter was an integral part of indie validation at a time when small studios couldn’t self-publish on consoles. Publishers weren’t interested in anything but the biggest blockbusters, leaving no room for experimental titles or love-letters to franchises long left fallow. And for a time, players and developers were certain it would forever break gaming away from caricature executive “villains” that wanted to focus test games to maximize profits, even if quality suffered. (Read More)
